Title Sequence

This project explores motion design as a storytelling device through the creation of a title sequence for a children’s film. Title sequences play a key role in setting tone and mood, and this project focused on using motion, pacing and illustration to introduce the world and character of Mikey the Magpie in an engaging and playful way.

Role & Scope

Role: Motion design, illustration and animation

Collaboration: Designed independently

Deliverables: Illustrated assets and title sequence animation

The Challenge

With an open-ended brief, the challenge was to create a title sequence that would capture attention and encourage audiences to engage with the opening credits. The sequence needed to feel light-hearted and suitable for a children’s film, while still using motion and camera techniques in a purposeful way to support storytelling rather than distract from it.

Design Approach

The design approach focused on illustrated environments animated through 3D camera movement to guide the viewer’s eye across the sequence. Smooth panning, depth and fast paced jazz music were used to establish energy and introduce the playful tone of Mikey the Magpie. All assets were illustrated and animated using Adobe Illustrator and After Effects.
