Zine + Campaign
Evolving Edge
Brand identity, AR animation, Campaign
Evolving Edge is an up-and-coming Zine publication company in Sunshine Coast where its first issue explores the quaint town of Maleny. The key objective of this project is to intrigue young adults and show that this rural town is a great spot for a weekend getaway or a day out. They will engage with the project through animated AR videos in the zine to make long-lasting connections between the audience and the town.
Role & Scope
Role: Brand identity design, publication design, illustration, animation and interactive content
Collaboration: Designed independently
Deliverables: Brand development, custom typeface, travel zine design, illustrated mapping, EyeJack animation, merchandise concepts and digital touchpoints
The Challenge
Maleny is often perceived as a quiet destination for an older demographic, despite offering a growing number of cafés, bookshops and creative spaces appealing to younger travellers. The challenge was to shift this perception without alienating the town’s existing character. The publication needed to feel playful, contemporary and engaging, while authentically representing Maleny and encouraging a new audience to explore the region.
Design Approach
The design approach focused on creating a bold, illustrated brand that felt approachable and exploratory. Illustration played a key role in shaping the identity, including a hand-drawn map that highlighted local landmarks and hidden gems. Each spread of the physical zine was enhanced with animation using EyeJack, bringing the publication to life through interactive moments that encouraged readers to engage beyond print. This blend of illustration, animation and editorial layout allowed the publication to feel immersive and discovery-driven.
